Produced from 2011 to 2022, the Aventador defined Lamborghini's flagship line for a generation: scissor doors, a carbon fibre monocoque and a 6.5-litre V12 in states of tune from the original LP 700-4 to the SVJ and the final Ultimae. As the cars age into classic status, the detailing question changes. It is no longer just 'how good can it look?' but 'how do we keep its original paint and carbon intact for the next twenty years?'
Age brings specific issues. Early cars have had a decade of washes, shows and storage, and their soft paint often carries the accumulated swirling to prove it. Exposed carbon — engine covers, roof panels on roadsters, SV aero — can show the first signs of UV oxidation. Roadster roofs and complex rear louvres trap dirt and water in ways coupés do not, and the SVJ's intricate active aero surfaces collect grime in every slot and channel.

Why coating suits an ageing flagship
On a car whose paint cannot be replaced like-for-like, a ceramic coating is a preservation layer: UV resistance against further fading, chemical resistance against the etching that older clear coat suffers faster, and a surface that needs gentler washing — the activity that does most cumulative damage to old paint. My Aventador's paint is original but swirled — can it be saved?
Almost certainly, with measured correction. Ageing Lamborghini paint usually holds enough clear coat for a careful multi-stage polish, guided by depth readings throughout. The goal is maximum restored gloss within safe limits — we agree a test section with you first, so the result is chosen, not chanced.
Can oxidised carbon fibre be restored?
Light surface oxidation and dulling can often be improved with gentle refinement and then sealed with coating to slow its return. Advanced oxidation that has clouded deep into the clear coat over the weave is a refinishing job. We assess each piece honestly — carbon engine covers and roof panels are the usual candidates.
Is PPF sensible on an older Aventador?
On the front end, yes, particularly for cars that are driven to events rather than trailered. Film protects original paint that cannot be replaced. Full-car film on an older car is a bigger judgement call that depends on paint condition after correction — the film is only ever as good as the surface prepared beneath it.
How do you handle the SVJ's active aero and vents?
Slowly, and mostly by hand. The ALA system's channels, the front splitter ducts and the engine bay louvres are cleaned with brushes and low-pressure water, dried with air and coated carefully so no product residue sits in the slots. It is time-consuming work that rushed detailing simply skips — and it shows when skipped.
Does detailing affect an Aventador's value?
Done properly, it protects it. Buyers of V12 flagships pay for original paint in excellent condition and for documentation. Correction that respects clear coat, coating that preserves it, and condition notes in the history file all support value. Aggressive polishing that thins paint or burns edges does the opposite — which is why measurement comes first here.
Can the roadster's roof and rear deck be coated?
Yes. The removable carbon roof panels are treated as carbon fibre — prepared gently, coated for UV resistance — and the louvred rear deck is cleaned and coated with attention to drainage channels so water behaviour stays correct. Fabric elements, where fitted on early concepts aside, the production roadster roof is composite and coats like other carbon.
