Ceramic Coating for the Lamborghini Gallardo in Manchester
The Gallardo made Lamborghini a volume manufacturer and is now a genuine modern classic. Its youngest cars are over a decade old, so the work is preservation: revive the finish sympathetically, then coat it against the next decade.

The Gallardo ran for ten years and over 14,000 cars, in forms from the original 5.0-litre coupé to the Superleggera, the LP 560-4 facelift and the Performante Spyder. In Greater Manchester they are now cherished classics, bought for the analogue V10 experience modern cars no longer offer — and their paint has lived a full life. Most examples carry years of swirling, tired trim and interiors that need as much attention as the bodywork.
Age changes the materials too. The Gallardo mixes aluminium and thermoplastic panels, whose paint ages and polishes differently from a modern car's. Early 5.0 cars are twenty years old; their clear coat must be measured carefully and corrected conservatively, because originality is now a real component of the car's value. Sticky interior plastics — a known ageing trait of cars from this era — and worn leather bolsters are part of the same sympathetic refresh.
Done well, a Gallardo responds wonderfully. Its simple, sharp Gandini-influenced lines show gloss beautifully, the bright period colours come back to life, and a ceramic coating then protects the revived finish with modern chemistry the car never had when new.
Preservation-first correction on ageing paint
Every Gallardo starts with paint depth mapping and a frank conversation. Some panels on twenty-year-old cars have been painted before, some clear coat is thin, and the right plan might be a sympathetic single-stage enhancement across the whole car rather than aggressive correction on the panels that can take it and thin results elsewhere. Uniform, honest gloss beats a patchwork of perfection and regret.
Thermoplastic panels — bumpers and sills among them — generate heat differently under the polisher and are worked cooler and slower. Rubbers, seals and period plastics are cleaned and dressed with products that feed rather than silicone-coat them, because dried-out trim is where an otherwise fresh classic gives its age away.
- Full paint depth mapping with a conservation-minded plan
- Cooler, slower technique for thermoplastic panel paint
- Period trim, rubbers and seals cleaned and fed, not siliconed
- Sticky-button and interior plastic assessment included
- Spyder roof mechanisms and rear decks cleaned with care
Superleggera and special editions
The Superleggera's carbon fibre — rear wing, diffuser, mirror caps, interior panels — is now old enough to show UV oxidation, and it gets the carbon routine: gentle refinement where the clear coat allows, then UV-resistant coating to arrest the process. Performante Spyders and the later LP cars benefit from the same approach, with soft-top care added where relevant.
Special editions live and die by originality and presentation. Our condition notes after any work give owners a record for the history file — increasingly part of what a classic Gallardo buyer is paying for.

Is it safe to machine polish a twenty-year-old Gallardo?
Yes, with measurement and restraint. Depth readings on every panel decide how far correction can go, and on thin or previously painted panels the answer may be a gentle enhancement rather than full defect removal. The aim is a uniformly revived finish that keeps the car's original paint — and its value — intact.
Can you fix the sticky interior plastics?
The tacky coating that develops on buttons and trim in cars of this era can be cleaned back and refinished with appropriate products in many cases, though severely degraded pieces are a specialist refinishing job. We assess during the interior detail and tell you plainly which pieces respond and which need more.
Does coating suit a classic like the Gallardo?
Completely. The car gets modern chemical and UV protection its paint never had, a finish that washes gently — critical on ageing clear coat — and gloss that holds across a show season. Coating is reversible by polishing, so nothing about it compromises the car's originality or future restoration options.
What about the Superleggera's carbon fibre?
It is inspected for UV oxidation first. Light clouding can often be improved gently and then sealed with a UV-resistant coating to slow further change; deeper oxidation is a refinishing conversation. Either way, coating the carbon after assessment is worthwhile — Sant'Agata-era carbon parts are not getting easier to replace.
My Gallardo is a Spyder — anything different?
The folding roof needs its own care: fabric hoods are cleaned and can be re-proofed, seals are fed to keep them supple, and the rear deck and mechanism areas are cleaned without forcing water into the workings. The rest of the plan — measured correction, coating, interior — follows the coupé's with those additions.
How should a coated Gallardo be maintained?
Gentle hand washing with the pre-wash and two-bucket method, an annual maintenance inspection, and prompt attention to any chips or marks before they spread in old paint. Classics cover low miles, so calendar-based care matters more than mileage — a yearly visit keeps everything honest.
